Hugo GARCIA-COTTE

Hugo is the CEO and Co-founder of Cypheme, a software company that develops counterfeit detection technologies. Co-founded by French and Chinese engineers in the Silicon Valley, Cypheme is now based in Paris, France and Shenzhen, China. Their artificial intelligence is capable of detecting counterfeit products by analysing the product’s packaging microstructure, using only a cellphone camera.

Counterfeit products cost $600 billion a year and kill more people than malaria yearly. Products include milk powder, medicine, wine, cosmetics, electronics, car parts; the list is long and painful.
As more fake products flood the market, less people buy the real ones, and consumers blame the brands when the goods turn out to be shoddy counterfeit products. Our technology can change that.
No “QR Code”, “RFID chips” or special hardware is required. Simply by scanning a Cypheme compatible package using a smartphone, customers can tell whether the item in front of them is genuine or not. Created by a French and Chinese team in the Silicon Valley, our technology leverages the latest advances in machine learning to analyse in-depth the microstructure of paper.

Hugo started his first company out of university, a consulting firm mostly focused on IT development and big data analysis, through this company he became the CTO of various tech start-ups in France, China and the Silicon Valley.
He holds a master degree in computer science from both the French Grande Ecole Supélec and Tsinghua University in Beijing. He published a book, filed a patent, wrote 10+ apps. He whent through the “500 Startups” accelerator in the Silicon Valley as well as Microsoft Accelerator in Paris. Fluent in mandarin, he raised venture capital from both French and Chinese investors.
